Tingsijian microlithic site was found in 1990. The second excavation was undertaken in autumn of 1991 and 239 stone artifacts were gathered in situ.
On the basis of the study o f stone artifacts some characters could be show n as follows:
    1. All artifacts a re very small in size.
    2. Flakes a re mainly produced by direct hammer percussion and occasionaly by bipolar technique, microblades are flaked by indirect flaking method and all microcores are boat- shaped ones.
    3. The tools are made on the flake except two specimens and include into scrapers, gravers, pointed tool, aw l and knife with blunted back. The scraper is the main type and the end scrapers a re common.
    4. Mo st of tools a re retouched by hammer percussion and a few of them could be trimmed by pressure method.
According to comparative study of microlithes, stratigraphy and geomorphology of adjacent regions around Bohai Sea, the age of Tingsijian site could be dated to be the final stag e of upper paleolithic or slightly later.

The physical characters of 394 adults ( 182 males, 212 females ) of Hui nationality living in Ningxia were investigated. The mean of 38 anthropometric items , 31 physical in- dices and the percentages of 7 somatoscopic items were calculated. A comparison among the data o f Hui and other nationalities in China w ere made. The results show ed that the physical characters o f Hui in Ningxia have both general characters of the Mongoloids and his ow n special features.

To evaluate the effects of 9 months swim drill on maximal aerobic capacity of children, 91 boys and girls aged 8 to 11 years were test ed by using a treadmill running test. Fourty-two swimmers ( 20 boys, 22 girls ) were s elected from the swim team of Haidian amateurish sports school in Beijing ( the trained group ) and 49 untrained ones ( 24 boys, 25 girls ) with the normal physical activity level for their ages from common school ( the control group) .
The result demonstrated that the trained children increased more in body height, weight, lean body mass and vital capacity than those in the control group before and aft er observation. Most increase rates of morphological indicators did not emerge significant differences between two groups during the period of observation. It showed that both the trained and control group had the same velocity of growth. The trained group had great er vital capacity than control one ( especially for boys), it meant that the swim drill would increase respiratory function of children.
The trained group had obviously higher VO2max in absolute value and in several relative values than the control group. There were no significant differences in the increments of most indicators between the trained and control group during the period of observation. But the increments of maximal endurance time and VO2max /HRmax were significantly higher in trained group than in control group of boys. It show ed that the swim drill might improve cardiac and respiratory function of preadolescent boys, but there were no significant effects for girls.

Eight measurements were taken o n 256 pairs of patella of Chinese Han nationality ( 18 - 75 years old) . Statistic analyses show that all the eight measurements have significant sex differences ( p < 0. 001) . By using Fisher 's method, sex discriminant functions with the eight items were established respectively. The highest discriminant rate reaches 94% w hen the volume of patella is used. For further increasing discriminant rate, stepwise discriminant analysis w as taken. Two measurements, the volume of patella and width of medial articular joint surface o f patella, w ere selected as the best discriminators. 96. 1% of sex discriminant rate can be obtained by using the function established with these two measurements.
